It was a rainy afternoon, but the stars came out for the Oscar Nominated Live Action and Animated Shorts viewing at the “Red Carpet Fun Raiser” presented by the MMVCT with its partnership with the Douglas Education Center in February. This was the first event of its kind brought to the Mon Valley and the comments from those who attended were it was a “great afternoon” and “keep events like this coming” and “next year we’ll bring our friends”! The MMVCT Board’s goal was to provide an opportunity for an experience that wasn’t available previously in the Mon Valley and to make it fun and there was no doubt that it received high marks from those who attended the event on both and those goals were definitely met.
Douglas Education Center was the perfect location for the event and the support from the Douglas Education Center and Janelle Imbrescia made this happen in a mere 12 days. Sherri, from the Pasta Shoppe in Monessen provided delicious hors d’ oeuvres on short notice and provided the elegant touches a Red Carpet event should have. Mon Valley Hospital donated a Basket and purchased tickets for a few students to attend the event and The Mon Valley Independent helped to get the word out publishing pieces with information, knowledge and coverage of the event.
Fred Exley, who attended the event and made it a family afternoon, gave a shout out “kudo” on Facebook about the event and commented “Hope you folks can return the shorts next year”.
For the MMVCT and Douglas Education Center, that would be a resounding, Yes absolutely.
